Forschungsprojekt: „Kants regulative Kosmologie“ (DFG - Eigene Stelle)
Areas of Specialization
I work on modern and early modern philosophy, with a focus on Kant, natural philosophy, epistemology and metaphysics. After studying in Newcastle, Edinburgh and at the CRMEP in London, I wrote my PhD thesis on Kant’s concept of force (Kraft). I have held successive postdoctoral fellowships at KU Leuven, funded by the Research Foundation – Flanders, and I have been a fellow or visiting scholar at the universities of Venice, Notre Dame, Bucharest, and Freiburg.
At Frankfurt, I am PI of a DFG project that investigates what I call Kant’s ‘regulative cosmology’. The project aims to shed new light on Kant’s theory of the regulative use of ideas of reason, as well as on his ‘practical metaphysics’ and transcendental idealism. I am also interested in applying Kant’s philosophy to contemporary issues; I have recently worked on the relevance of Kant’s epistemology for public debates on climate change.
